Our newest Regina showhome is officially open—and it is already an award winner.
Located at 3044 Favel Drive in Eastbrook, the Starkenberg model officially opened on July 13, 2026. The home was also named Green Build of the Year at the 2026 Regina & Region Home Builders’ Association Home Excellence Awards.
While we are incredibly proud of this recognition, what makes the Starkenberg especially exciting is how its high-performance features translate into greater comfort, lower energy use, and long-term value for homeowners.
Designed to Perform Better
The Starkenberg was designed with energy efficiency in mind from the beginning, supported by third-party energy modelling throughout the process.
Now that construction is complete, the home’s final EnerGuide evaluation confirms its impressive performance.
The Starkenberg received an EnerGuide rating of 72 gigajoules per year. A typical new home of comparable size is estimated to use approximately 148 gigajoules annually. That means the Starkenberg is rated to use 51.4% less energy than a typical new home under EnerGuide’s standard operating conditions.
When lighting, appliances, and electronics are excluded, the home is rated to use 62% less energy than a typical new house.
Actual utility use will always vary based on the number of people living in a home and their daily habits. However, EnerGuide testing provides a consistent way to compare the performance of different homes—and these final results give us plenty to celebrate.
More Protection From the Elements
A high-performance home begins with its building envelope: the walls, attic, foundation, windows, and other components that separate the living space from the outdoors.
This showhome features:
- Quad Pane Windows throughout
- R60 blown-in attic insulation
- High-performance exterior wall assemblies
- Two inches of continuous exterior rigid insulation
- R32 spray-foam insulation at the rim joists and living space above the garage
- R10 insulation beneath the basement slab
- Advanced air sealing throughout the home
This home also features high-performance quad-pane windows, which makes 3044 Favel Drive one of the first homes in western Canada to include such high energy efficient windows.
Together, these features help maintain more consistent indoor temperatures, reduce drafts, and lessen the amount of energy required to keep the home comfortable.
An Exceptionally Airtight Home
During its final testing, the Starkenberg achieved an airtightness result of 0.85 air changes per hour.
In simple terms, this measurement shows how much air escapes through gaps in the home’s exterior envelope. The lower the result, the more effectively the home limits uncontrolled air leakage.
A more airtight home can reduce heat loss, improve comfort, and allow its heating and cooling equipment to operate more efficiently. Controlled ventilation then brings fresh air into the home where and when it is needed.
Efficient Heating, Cooling, and Ventilation
The Starkenberg combines several high-efficiency mechanical systems designed for Saskatchewan’s climate.
A two-stage air-source heat pump provides efficient heating and cooling during much of the year. It is supported by a two-stage, 97% AFUE natural-gas furnace, providing reliable performance when winter temperatures drop.
A certified heat-recovery ventilator brings fresh air into the home while capturing some of the heat from outgoing air. Dedicated controls, bathroom timers, and an Ecobee smart thermostat give occupants greater control over comfort, ventilation, and energy use.
Powered in Part by the Sun
Six rooftop solar panels help reduce the home’s reliance on conventional energy sources.
Each panel uses microinverter technology, allowing it to operate independently. This helps reduce system losses, maximize energy production, and provide flexibility if the solar system is expanded in the future.
The roof structure was engineered to accommodate the solar-panel load, ensuring renewable energy was considered as part of the home’s original design.
The final EnerGuide report did not apply a solar-energy contribution to its calculation. This means the home’s 72 GJ/year rating and 51.4% reduction reflect the performance of its building envelope and mechanical systems without a solar offset being credited.
Built With Health and the Future in Mind
Energy efficiency is only one part of a high-performing home. The Starkenberg also includes features intended to support a healthier, more comfortable, and more durable living environment.
Radon-mitigation rough-ins, sealed slab penetrations, carefully designed ductwork, controlled ventilation, and smart air-quality controls all contribute to the home’s overall performance.
It is a practical example of how thoughtful construction choices—many of which are hidden once the home is complete—can make a meaningful difference in everyday living.
Come Experience It in Eastbrook
The Starkenberg demonstrates what is possible when verified performance, innovative technology, and climate-specific design come together.
More importantly, it allows visitors to experience these features inside a thoughtfully designed home built for real life.
